R. Brett Thomas is an Emmy® nominated film editor based in Los Angeles, CA.
Born and raised in Savannah, GA, Brett developed an early passion for fine art and cinema. He studied filmmaking at the University of Alabama before moving to Los Angeles, where he began his career in the creative services department at WME (William Morris Endeavor). He then worked as a promo editor for Sony Pictures before shifting his focus to long-form film & television. Brett has since built a career moving seamlessly between scripted and documentary projects. His work can be seen on Netflix, HBO Max, Prime Video, ESPN, and has premiered at renowned festivals including Sundance, Tribeca, and SXSW.
Upcoming titles include The Screener, a scripted dark comedy series which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2026.
Past titles include the Netflix documentary series Marines (produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment), Bad Influence: The Dark Side of Kidfluencing (#1 Global Netflix Show in April 2025), and The Program: Cons, Cults, and Kidnapping (#1 U.S. Netflix Show in March 2024).
Brett lives in the Valley with his wife, two kids, and a couple of cats. He is a member of the Television Academy and is available for union work through the Motion Picture Editors Guild (Local 700).
